ARCHITECTURE HISTORY AND THEORY

Through the exposure to detailed accounts of the principal developments in the early world from the ancient to revolutionary period to the present day, we can thus gain understanding of architectural theory through a consideration of intentions, concepts, patterns, disciplines, architectural language and contextual relationships as we explore, research and analyze the significance of the past to the present in our projects.
PROJECT 01 SKETCHING ANALYSIS
In this project, we were required to undertake a research analysis process on selected architectural historical building sites through sketching practices, literature review and documentation and present an appropriate sketching, chronology and diagram analysis based on the understanding gained through the analysis procedure.
PROJECT 02
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS REPORT
In this group project, we were to conduct a comparative analysis of two case studies between local heritage buildings, which is Menara Dewan Bahasa and Stadium Merdeka in our case. Through this, we were exposed and familiarized with the activities of culmination and production of a research analysis through assemblage, chronological arrangements, diagramming exercises, indices and evaluation of information; composing and organization of study; assembly of illustration and text; design layout composition; posters and general presentation.
LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Despite having to conduct our classes fully online for this module, I find that the learning experience was not compromised as we were not required to use the studio. In fact, I enjoyed the prerecorded lectures as they allow me to watch and learn at my own pace. However, I find that having long hours of online classes back to back strains my energy both mentally and physically as I had to face the digital device for prolonged hours.
SELF-REFLECTION
Through this module, I was able to deepen my understanding towards the development of world history in relation to architecture. It was interesting to witness the evolution of architecture with the passage of time as well as the ideas and philosophies behind the construction and design of each buildings. Besides, I am really thankful for the help and guidance of my tutor, Ms. Dee who prompted us to think further, analyze deeper and convey our information in a more coherent manner as we complete our assignments. Overall, I was thoroughly inspired and motivated to delve deeper the realm of architecture after assimilating the profound knowledge and insights of history in this module.
